4. Housing Act, 193G. Part IV (Overcrowding).
(a) (1) Number of dwelling houses overcrowded at the end of
the year 123
(2) Number of families dwelling therein 208
(3) Equivalent number of adults dwelling therein 850
(b) Number of new cases reported during the year 70
(c) (1) Number of cases of overcrowding relieved during the
year 173
(2) Number of persons concerned in such cases 1,172½
(d) Particulars of any cases in which dwelling houses have
again become overcrowded after the local authority
have taken steps for the abatement of overcrowding

Overcrowding
During the year 79 cases of overcrowding were found to exist and
173 cases were remedied leaving 123 dwellings with 850 equivalent
adults in occupation overcrowded at the end of the year.

The known position as to overcrowding at the beginning and end of the year was as follows:

It should be noted that these figures represent the position with
regard to overcrowding only insofar as information comes to the notice
of the department. Nothing short of a comprehensive house-to-house
survey of the whole district such as was originally undertaken under the
Housing Act, 1935, could reveal the exact extent of overcrowding.
