With regard to sewers, two maintenance treatments were carried out, one in May and the other in November, with the following results:

Swimming Baths
The one privately owned swimming bath has been purchased by
the Council. A chlorination plant is installed for treatment of the water
which is subjected to continuous precipitation and filtration. One
sample of water was taken and proved satisfactory.
Offices
Six inspections of offices were made, but no action was necessary.
Shops Act, 1950
There are 524 shop premises on the register and 1,000 inspections
were made during the year.
A Preliminary Notice was served with regard to the provision of
seating for female employees, with the desired effect.
Disposal of the Dead
The number of interments in the Carshalton and Merton and
Morden Joint Cemetery Board's cemetery at Morden during the year
was 385 and of this number 177 were from the Carshalton district.
The churchyard adjoining the Carshalton Parish Church continues to
be used for burials, but this is mainly for the re-opening of existing
graves.
Modern mortuary facilities with provision for post-mortem
examinations are provided at the Council's Mill Lane mortuary.
During the year 115 bodies were received into the mortuary, on all of
which autopsies were performed.
National Assistance Act—Section 50.
No burials under the provisions of Section 50 of the National
Assistance Act were arranged by the Council during 1052.
