Pneumonia.
Of 42 cases of pneumonia which were notified, 9 were stated to
be of influenzal origin and occurred during prevalence of that infection
in February, March and early April.
Sixty-five per cent were adults over 20 years of age.
Measles.
The number of cases of measles was approximately half that in
1948, the number notified being 474 of which 433 were local children.
The previous year had the highest incidence of measles since the
disease was first notifiable in 1939. From our knowledge of the
periodicity of this infection a fall in the incidence curve in 1949 was
to be expected. With a relatively low prevalence the cases were
fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. There were no deaths.
