Section C—Sanitary Circumstances.
Water Supply.
With the exception of 170 dwellings in the extreme north the
district is supplied by the Sutton and District Water Company with
water derived normally from chalk wells situated at Sutton, Cheam,
and Woodmansterne. The supply can, if necessary, be augmented by
the Metropolitan Water Board, the Epsom and Ewell Corporation and
the East Surrey Water Company. The Company is under statutory
obligation to soften to 9 of hardness.
The supply throughout the year was satisfactory both in quality
and quantity and no significant contamination was detected. A comprehensive
programme of testing of the raw and finished waters is
carried out by the Company's resident chemist supplemented by
periodical sampling by the Counties Public Health Laboratory. The

following analysis of the examinations carried out in the Company s Laboratory is supplied by courtesy of the Engineer and Works Manager.
