The Cleansing Station was staffed with the help of Civil Defence personnel and dealt with the following cases:—

Families.Persons.Attendances.
For scabies1847981432
For pediculosis52201369

The practice of treating all members of the families affected by scabies
is followed and instances of reinfestation have been few.
Carefully co-ordinated arrangements have been made with the
school medical service for the control of verminous conditions in
school children so that they are included in the treatment of the
family as a unit.
Visits for the control of pediculosis are made in the first
instance by the nurse-in-charge of the Cleansing Station followed,
where necessary, by the Sanitary Inspector. The latter visits in
connection with scabies infestation and takes appropriate action with
regard to the premises as well as making arrangements for the attendance
of the family at the Cleansing Station where this is the desirable
course. Following up, after treatment, is done by the nurse.
The Sanitary Inspectors visited 234 homes, 226 for scabies and
eight for pediculosis under The Scabies Order during the course of
the year. Four lots of bedding were sterilised at the Cuddington
Isolation Hospital. Patients' personal clothing is treated in the
Thresh disinfector at the Cleansing Station.
