of Food.
Milk Supply.
Only a small amount of raw milk is sold in the district, including
that which is retailed at the various farms. Only one producer-retailer
sells raw milk in the district produced outside the district. The bulk
of the milk supply consumed in the district is pasteurised in
accordance with the Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936.
The number of cowkeepers on the register is 4, with a total of
about 130 cows. Two of them are licenced to use the term
"Accredited Milk."
The number of retail purveyors of milk on the register is 73,
of whom 2 were registered during the year.
Forty-five of the retailers have premises in the district, the
remaining twenty-eight retail milk brought from premises outside the
district.
The cowsheds, dairies and milk shops in the district have been
regularly inspected, and 57 samples of graded and ungraded milk in
course of delivery to the consumer were taken.
One large dairy premises was reconstructed and remodelled on
hygienic lines for the storage and redistribution of milk and other
dairy produce. One other small dairy was rebuilt.
