The Council contributes annually to the hospital and has an
arrangement for the treatment of maternity cases and children
referred from the public welfare services.
Tuberculosis.
The Surrey County Council is responsible for the anti-tuberculosis
scheme in the district. The main institutional provision is
the County Sanatorium, Milford, to which 24 persons were
admitted from Carshalton during the year. Eighty-eight other
cases received in-patient treatment at other institutions under the
County scheme.
Smallpox.
County Isolation Hospital, Clandon.—The hospital arrangements
for the treatment of smallpox cases in all districts of Surrey
are undertaken by the County Council. Provision exists at the
Clandon Hospital for the reception of 28 cases.
No cases were sent from this district during the year.
County and Public Assistance Hospitals.
Under the present arrangements, Carshalton residents requiring
in-patient treatment in County hospitals are received mostly into
the Epsom and Kingston Hospitals. The erection of the new St.
Helier Hospital is proceeding, but meantime the position with
regard to hospital accommodation in this part of the County
remains very difficult.
