Tuberculosis.—The hospital accommodation for tuberculosis
is provided by the Surrey County Council who are responsible
for the anti-tuberculosis scheme in this district. The main
provision is the County Sanatorium, Milford, an institution of
300 beds to which 29 persons were admitted from Carshalton
during the year. 96 other persons received in-patient treatment
at other institutions under the County scheme.
Smallpox.—County Isolation Hospital, Clandon. The
hospital arrangements for the treatment of smallpox cases in all
districts of Surrey are undertaken by the County Council. Provision
exists at the Clandon Hospital for the reception of 28 cases.
No cases were sent from this district during the year.
County and Public Assistance Hospitals.—Under the
present arrangements, Carshalton residents requiring in-patient
treatment in County Hospitals are received mostly into the Epsom
and Kingston Hospitals, but the local facilities have for some
time been steadily growing more inadequate. The completion
of the new County Hospital at St. Helier will be eagerly awaited,
not only by this, but by neighbouring districts in the north eastern
part of the County.
