Home Safety
In 1963 the Home Safety Committee once again supported, by
the distribution of posters and leaflets, the various national campaigns;
in particular "Buying and Selling for Safety in the Home" and "Fire
Prevention". Special attention was paid to danger from fireworks and
from Christmas decorations.
A competition was again held for schoolchildren, this year in the
form of a quiz poster on dangers in the home. One thousand four
hundred entries were received and prizes were presented by the
Mayor.
Rospa were invited to send a representative, who gave a talk
on water safety.
Meals-on-Wheels
Under the able supervision of Mrs. Forsdick, the Centre
Organiser, the Meals-on-Wheels had another successful year.
Meals are distributed by the W.V.S. and other voluntary workers,
on four days a week, to the housebound and to the old age pensioners
at their club in London Road. Five thousand five hundred and
twenty-nine meals were supplied during the year.
The supply of meals continued satisfactorily under the new
caterer, Mrs. L. Frost, who supplied all the old people with a
traditional Christmas dinner free of charge. A gift of a free New Year
dinner was made by friends of the W.V.S.
