Poliomyelitis
There was one case of poliomyelitis during the year. This
occurred in the child of a travelling showman and the disease was
contracted before entry to Mitcham. For England and Wales the
number of cases goes down year by year, for which the immunisation
campaigns are undoubtedly responsible.
Polio Vaccination
Practically all poliomyelitis immunisation is now carried out by
oral vaccine.
