All ponds and ditches in the Borough where mosquito breeding
was likely were sprayed with insecticide twice during the year and
larger areas where mosquitoes were found to be breeding but spraying
was impracticable, were treated with a fog generating apparatus with
satisfactory results.
Disinfestation of dust chutes at the Council's blocks of flats was
carried out by means of the high pressure fogging apparatus which
was most effective: all school canteens were similarly treated.
LEGAL PROCEEDINGS
Public Health Act, 1936.—There were no legal proceedings in
1961.
Petroleum (Regulation) Acts, 1928 and 1936, and Petroleum
{Mixtures) Order, 1929.—100 licences to store petroleum spirit
and/or petroleum mixtures were issued for a total of 246,410 gallons
(inclusive of cellulose solutions).
Petroleum (Regulation) Acts, 1928 and 1936, and Petroleum
(Carbide of Calcium) Order, 1929.—Two licences were issued for
the storage of 1,224 lbs. of carbide of calcium.
