Fifteen infants failed to survive the first month of life, giving
Mitcham a neo-natal mortality rate of 16.16 per 1,000 related live
births as compared with 15.5 for England and Wales.
Maternal Mortality
For the sixth successive year, no deaths were registered.
Inquests
Inquests were held on 26 residents dying within the district and
on 12 Mitcham residents who died outside the district, a total of 38.
In addition, post-mortems without inquests were held on 91 residents
