Diarrhœa and Enteritis Under Two Years of Age
No death was registered during the year.
Food Poisoning Outbreaks
There were six notified cases in 1960 and a further 43 cases
occurred in a factory. The six notifications were all of single cases,
the illness being caused by S. Typhimurium in three cases and
S. Kotbuss in one. In the remaining two cases the agent could not be
identified. In the factory outbreak the cause was CI. Welchii. It
was thought to be due to infected fresh meat that was cooked, not
eaten at the time, and subsequently reheated.
Encephalitis Lethargica
There were no cases notified during the year.
Erysipelas
Five cases were notified. None was removed to hospital.
Puerperal Pyrexia
There were five cases of puerperal pyrexia during the year.
Pneumonia
Ten cases of primary pneumonia were notified during the year.
The number of deaths from all forms of pneumonia, some of which
are not notifiable, was 27, of which 16 were males and 11 females.
Meningococcal Infections
One case was notified during the year.
Influenza
There was only one death from influenza, compared with seven
last year.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum
During the year one case of ophthalmia neonatorum was notified.
