Poliomyelitis
There were no cases of poliomyelitis during the year. The
immunisation campaign was undoubtedly responsible for the
diminishing number of cases. For England and Wales the number
of cases goes down considerably year by year.
Polio Vaccination
The scheme now includes all up to 40 years of age. Those over
40 may be inoculated by private practitioners commencing 1.1.61.
Numbers vaccinated in 1960
Primary courses Third injections
0-17 years 899 1,721
Over 17 years 2,941 3,535
The total number inoculated since the inception of the scheme
is 20,412, which includes 13,534 children or 84 per cent. of the
estimated child population.
Clinics are now held on Tuesday evenings, 5—7 p.m., in rotation
at the various clinics.
Enteric Fever
There were no cases of enteric fever during the year.
