the Borough, bringing with it in most cases more spacious, brightly lit, and well ventilated shops
for the convenience of the public and of special benefit to the shop assistants.
Inspections
1929 shops have been inspected, prescribed notices, records of employment, etc., have been
examined, and all necessary information obtained. An up-to-date register of shops within the
Borough has been maintained. 2214 male assistants, 2803 female assistants, and 163 male and
367 female young persons, were employed at the premises inspected.

Middlesex County Council Act, 1944 Street Trading
Eight warning letters were sent and one prosecution taken for unlicensed street trading.
Twenty-three trading sites were licensed.
In connection with the infringements recorded above, 98 re-inspections were made and 37
formal notices were served.
