THE CARE OF THE AGED.
Great difficulty is experienced occasionally in determining the proper
procedure to adopt in the case of old people, living alone and unfit by
reason of decrepitude to look after themselves or their homes. They
resent the suggestion that they should go into the "Institution"; their
relatives are none too eager to accept responsibility for the proper care
of the old people; their neighbours' intervention is resented, or they (the
neighbours) have sufficiently weighty responsibilities without accepting
others.
Circumstances of the kind indicated come to the notice of the department
with sufficient frequency to warrant sympathetic consideration being
given to the problem, with a view of a satisfactory solution being found.
