gratifying record. It is one of the most important functions of the
visitors to ensure that mothers breast feed their infants. There is a
tendency for mothers to resort too readily to artificial feeding, assuming
that they are not going to be able to suckle their children, without
making any serious attempt to do so. It is no easy matter to overcome
this tendency, and that so much has been accomplished is satisfactory.
The Centres continue to fulfil their useful functions, the attendances
being 1,500 more than last year, notwithstanding a declension in the
number of births.

have been associated with me in the work coming within the purview
of your Committee.
