Resuscitating apparatus is now provided in the Ambulance Service
for administering oxygen in cases of gas poisoning, drowning, etc. This
has already been used with success. The Council have now sanctioned
the purchase of a fourth Ambulance, tenders for which are at present
under consideration.
LABORATORY.
At the Laboratory, 1,165 swabs from the throats or noses of persons
in contact with sufferers from Diphtheria or themselves supposed to be
suffering from Diphtheria, and 287 specimens of sputum from persons
suspected to be suffering from Consumption have been examined during
the year. Of the swabs, 120 were positive, and of the sputum, 39
specimens.
Other bacteriological and serological examinations are made by
arrangement with the Prince of Wales's Hospital.
