CHIROPODY SERVICES !
The Chiropody Scheme developed during the year
by increasing the number of treatments carried out in clinics and other
centres thus enabling the service to progress towards greater efficiency
and economy. This is an important factor in a service for which by natural
progression more and more people become eligible. The following groups
were eligible for treatment
(i) Elderly persons, i.e. persons of pensionable age, receiving
retirement pensions.
(ii) Handicapped persons including registered blind and partially sighted,
and
(iii) Expectant mothers.
2641 (2l8l) patients received treatment during 1967
of whom 185 (142) were handicapped persons, 33 (36) were blind persons and
2423 (2011) were elderly persons.
The total number of treatments given under the scheme
was 12,367 (12,256) of which 2925 (4029) were given by private chiropodists
in their surgeries, 4498 (3377) were given at clinics and other fixed
centres and 1045 (892) were given in residential homes for elderly persons
including the two Local Authority establishments, Maiden Homes and
"Brambleacres". 3899 (3958) treatments were given at the patient's
own home.
