(B) 80 and 82 Lind Road, Sutton
A representation was made to the Borough Council on the 29th
September, 1964, in respect of the two above-mentioned houses.
These houses were considered to be unfit for human habitation
and not capable at reasonable expense of being rendered so fit The
Council accordingly instructed that the necessary notices be served
under Section 16 of the Act. Notices were duly served and
negotiations were still in progress at the year end.
(C) 2 to 10 (even nos.) Palmerston Road, Sutton
A representation was made to the Borough Council on the 15th
December, 1964, in respect of five houses known as 2 to 10 Palmerston
Road, Sutton When,, it was decided that these properties were unfit
for human habitation and not capable at reasonable expense of being
rendered so fit, accordingly instructions were given for the necessary
notices to be served under Section 16 of the Act.
6. Grants for the Improvement or Conversion of Houses
Section 20 of the Housing Act, 1949 empowered local authorities to
make grants at their discretion for the improvement of dwellings by the
provision of certain amenities.
The Borough Council decided to operate the scheme in October, 1954
Section 30 of the Housing Act, 1961 alters the circumstances in which
improvement grants and standard grants may be made under Part II of the
Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1958 and the House Purchase and
Housing Act, 1959, but further amendments have been made by the Housing
Act, 1964, which widens the scope of the scheme.
