Smoke Abatement and Atmospheric Pollution
There are but few industrial chimneys in the Borough.
Nine complaints of smoke emission were received and dealt with
during the year, six of these were in respect of bonfires, one in respect of
a domestic chimney, and two from industrial plants.
Grit Deposit Measuring Gauges
In conjunction and with the co-operation of the Department of
Scientific and Industrial Research, the grit deposit measuring gauges have
been maintained-and samples collected monthly for analytical examination.
The Borough is adequately covered by three grit deposit gauges which
are sited roughly IV2 miles apart.
