RENT ACT, 1957
This Act came into operation on the 6th July, 1957 and applies
primarily to privately owned property let unfurnished as separate dwellings,
but it also affects furnished lettings.
The main effect of the Act was to free from rent control houses and
flats with rateable values exceeding £40 in the Metropolitan Police District,
and the City of London, or over £30 elsewhere in England and Wales, and to
allow limited increases in the rents of houses and flats still under rent
control.
