Sutton Sewage Works. During the year minor improvements have been
made to the treatment units generally. The effluent discharged to the Py1
Brook is normally of good quality.
Closet Accommodation. There is only one cess pool in use in the
Borough, and one septic tank.
During the year a cesspool, not shewn in our records, was found to be
in use at a local church. This cesspool was abolished and the vestry's
soil drains connected to the Council's sewer.
Since 1928 one hundred and sixty three premises, originally with
cesspool drainage, have been connected to sewers.
Only two pail closets and three chemical closets are in use not
including those in temporary use on new building sites.
Drainage The Cuddington Way relief soil sewer has been completed
and work has commenced on a contract for soil relief sewers at Stayton
Road and Stonecot Hill. The Stayton Road relief sewer will overcome
flooding difficulties which have occurred in Pylbrook Road and Sorrento
Road areas.
Rivers and Streams. The streams within the Borough have been
maintained in a satisfactory condition.
Refuse Collection and Cleansing The scheme which commenced in
1960 for the haulage of refuse from the areas of both Mitcham and Sutton
and Cheam Councils via the Refuse Transfer Station in Oldfields Road,
Suttan to the controlled tip at Buckland in the main proceeded satisfactorily
throughout the year.
