4 Housing Act, 1957 - Section 42 - Clearance Areas
(A) 821-835 (odd) London Road, North Cheam
The houses in this 'Clearance Area' were demolished in July, 1961 and
the site cleared for redevelopment.
(B) 25 - 43 (odd) Maiden Road, Cheam
These properties were acquired as a 'Clearance Area' by the Council
in 1959.
They were still in occupation at the end of the year, except for Nos,
27 and 37 which had been vacated.
New houses and flats are in course of construction by the Council on
land at the rear of Pond Hill Parade and Nos. 25 to 43 Maiden Road.
It is anticipated that the new buildings will be completed in 1962 and
the occupants rehoused.
5- Housing Act, 1957 - Sections 16 and 17
(A) 16 to 26 (even) Benhill Avenue, Sutton
Upon representation the Housing Committee decided in July, 1961 to
accept an undertaking from the landlord not to relet these properties as
they became vacant.
(B) 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 Park Road, Cheam
The Ministry of Housing and Local Government had placed these
cottages on the supplementary list (Grade 3) of buildings in the Borough
whilst not regarded as possessing a sufficient degree of architectural or
historic interest to merit inclusion in the statutory list, were regarded as
possessing sufficient interest to justify their being borne in mind.
The Surrey County Council has since decided not to make a Building
Preservation Order in respect of the properties.
Undertakings were accepted from the landlord in 1960 not to relet the
houses when they became vacant.
At the year end two of the cottages were empty.
(C) 5, 7 and 9 Maiden Road, Cheam
These cottages had also been placed by the Ministry of Housing and
Local Government on the supplementary list (Grade 3), but it was decided
later that a Building Preservation Order should not be made,
The Borough Council had already accepted undertakings from the
landlord not to relet as the. houses became vacant, and have now granted
permission for the redevelopment of the area for the erection of houses and
garages subject to certain conditions.
