SMOKE ABATEMENT
Observations have been kept upon the chimneys of the few
premises likely to give rise to smoke nuisance. No black smoke
contraventions were observed but, in order to deal with moderate
emissions, the chimney at one sawdust consuming furnace has been
rebuilt and heightened and work of a similar character to a
laundry boiler chimney is in hand.
The Corporation has maintained four grit deposit gauges and
the results of monthly analyses are being collated. Results are
furnished also to the Department of Scientific and Industrial
Research.
