(E) . Ice Lollies (Chemical and Bacteriological
Examinations )
1. Chemical. The Food Standards (Ice Cream) Orders do not
apply to water Ices sold as such, or to Ice lollies.
The production of Ice lollies In the Borough Is Increasing
whereas the manufacture of Ice cream Is diminishing. In order
to ascertain the possible effect of the use of bakellte moulds
In the manufacture of lollies, a sample was submitted to the
Public Analyst for examination, but no evidence was found of
harmful Impurities arising from the use of these moulds.
2. Bacteriological. Ice Lollies are In popular demand with
school children. In view of this, and In the absence of a
prescribed standard, It was considered advisable that samples of
lollies should be submitted to a bacteriological test similar to
the one applied to ice cream.
It Is gratifying to record that all of the twenty-six
samples taken for this purpose were placed in provisional Grade
I, and further that none contained faecal coll, and In four
cases only were conforms found to be present.
MEAT AND OTHER FOODS
Food Shops. The fifty-four butchers shops (Including two
horseflesh shops) within the Borough have been Inspected and
observation kept upon the vehicles used for the conveyance of
meat.
In general the provisions of the Public Health (Meat)
Regulations have been well observed.
