The work of disinfestation has continued to be carried
out upon the lines indicated in previous Reports.
The Insecticides used were "Fuminel" and D.D.T.
SHOPS ACT, 1954
One hundred and forty-three visits were made in connoction
with Section 10 of the Shops Act, 1934.
INCIDENCE OF AND CONTROL OVER INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Six hundred and fourteen cases of infectious disease were
notified during the year 1946. Of these, eighty-six were
institutional cases, and five hundred and twenty eight were district
cases. This is a decrease of one hundred and fifty-seven cases
compared with the number of cases notified in 1945, and is
accounted for mainly by a lower prevalence of Measles. The
incidence of Scarlet Fever remained low. Cases of Diphtheria
were more numerous. There was an increase in Whooping Cough.
One fatal case of acute Anterior Poliomyelitis occurred in the
Autumn. Two adult oases of Cerebro-Spinal Fever were notified.
SCARLET FEVER:- One hundred and thirty cases were notified,
an increase of three cases. Thirty-six of these case were notified
from an institution. The case rate was 1.65 per 1000 of population,
compared with 1.38 per 1000 of population for England and Wales.
The disease was generally mild. There was no death.
