A dramatic fall is to be seen in the lung cancer deaths figure in males and the total figure of cancer deaths was 16 less than in 1962, but this was entirely due to a fall in male deaths, the female deaths showed no improvement.

The total number of deaths from violent causes i.e. motor vehicle accidents,
all other accidents and suicide was 28. These included 4 road accidents, 11
suicides (six from gas poisoning, five from drug poisoning) and 13 other accidents.
The number of accidental deaths rose from 11 in 1962 to 13 in 1963 and
the details of these are in the following table. All of the victims are aged
over 60 except four, and the two main causes appear this time to be falls at
home, and poisoning by drugs.
