7—Following Up.
The following up of children referred for treatment or
for observation is carried out by the School Medical Officer by
systematic re-examination at the Schools or the Minor
Ailment Clinic, and by the School Nurses, partly by
re-examination at the Personal Hygiene Inspections and
partly by Home Visiting. The Medical Officer made 1,749 of
these examinations, and the Nurses 2,137. In addition, they
made 1,056 visits to the homes of the children.
The Nurses visit the homes (a) of children excluded
from School for uneleanliness; (b) of those whose parents
have neglected or refused treatment that is considered
necessary; (c) of those needing treatment, whose parents
were not present at the Inspection. They also visit to
demonstrate some form of home treatment that has been
advised, as in the case of Scabies. This visiting often enables
them to give valuable information to the Public Health
Department respecting the sanitary condition of the homes.
