6—Infectious Disease.
There were comparatively few cases of Scarlet Fever
and Diphtheria in the Schools during the year, but an epidemic
of Mumps occurred in the first few months, of Whooping
Cough in the middle of the year, and of Measles in October,
November and December. Chicken-pox was present throughout
the year, the number reaching to an epidemic degree in
June and July, subsiding during August and September, and
again rising in October, November and December. It was
not found necessary to close the Schools during any of these
epidemics.
The following tables give an idea as to the incidence
and prevalence of these diseases:—
