and also does not include the 161 deaths of Chiswick permanent
residents, which had occurred whilst temporarily
resident in other districts.
Allowing for these corrections of inward and outward
transfers, the actual number of deaths assigned to the district
was 512. Calculating on the Registrar General's estimate of
the population, viz.: 40,460, this gives a "recorded deathrate"
of 12.65. The standardizing factor for correcting this
recorded death-rate, as supplied by the Registrar General, is
.926. Multiplying the recorded rate figures by this factor,
gives a "corrected death-rate" of 11.71, and it is this rate
which is used for comparison with other districts and the
country generally.
The death-rate for the whole of England and Wales
for 1925, is 12.2, and for London, 11.7.

MORTALITY IN AGE GROUPS DURING 1925.

Deaths.
Under one year of age54
One year and under 2 years9
Two years and under 5 years4
Five years and under 15 years19
15 years and under 25 years16
25 years and under 45 years46
45 years and under 65 years144
65 years and over220

From the above it will be seen that 220 deaths occurred
during the past year of persons over 65 years of age, and it
is a matter of interest to note that 106 of these were between
the ages of 70 and 80 years; 62 were over 80 years, and eight
were 90 years and over; the oldest inhabitant to die having
reached the advanced age of 96 years.
Table II sets out the causes of death as classified in
the Registrar General's Annual Return. From an examination
of this return, and comparing it with similar returns
for the period under review, it would appear that the causes
of death have been fairly constant, no particular disease
showing a marked increase above the average in any one
year. The deaths resulting from Influenza, Cancer, Tuberculosis
and Pneumonia are again referred to under Section VI
of the Report, on pages 47, 48 and 49.
