vans, hawkers are more reluctant to provide one. Without
a store it is inevitable that some sorting or preparation for
sale of foodstuffs takes place in the highway which is
undesirable. Moreover the lack of a foodstore may lead
to food being kept in unsuitable places. Public Health
Control over hawkers' activities is not very strong and is
difficult of application but efforts were made to maintain a
reasonable hygienic standard.
Two new hawkers of foodstuffs were registered.
Street Traders
Persons wishing to trade from fixed sites in any public
street are required to hold licences under Sections 320 and
321 of the Middlesex County Council Act, 1944. The
licence of a street trader to sell fruit and vegetables in the
district was renewed. One other application was refused.
Slaughter-houses
There are no slaughter-houses in the district. One
slaughter-man's licence was renewed.
In February 1960 the Council submitted to the Minister
of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food a report upon slaughterhouse
facilities, in accordance with the Slaughter-houses
Act, 1958, and the Slaughter-house (Reports) Direction,
1959, which was accepted by the Minister.
Knackers Yard
There are now no knackers yards in the district.
Inspection and Supervision of Food
Carcase meat and offal was inspected at butchers' shops,
catering establishments and elsewhere, including two pigs
slaughtered by a pig breeder and the following was considered
unfit for human consumption:—
