The reduction in the proportion of samples failing to satisfy the Grade I test is worthy of
notice. This test is used for the provisional assessment of the bacterial cleanliness of ice cream.
The majority of failures were due to faults in the storage and handling of the products.
MEAT
Slaughtering continues to be carried out at the one privately owned slaughterhouse in the
Borough. Slaughtering is regularly carried out on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and all
carcases are inspected in accordance with the Meat Inspection Regulations 1963-1966.
