Regular rodent control treatments of the airport are carried out by a Contractor employed by the
British Airports Authority.
Buildings
The buildings at the Airport are inspected regularly for rodents and insects. The main problems
are associated with mice and cockroaches, both of which have been troublesome but during the last year
expensive treatments have been undertaken by the Contractors and the situation is much improved.
Water Supply
The whole of the Airport is supplied with mains water and this is satisfactory.
Aircraft water supplies do raise problems from time to time and to ensure safety regular samples
are taken for bacteriological examination. Most aircraft are now fitted with fixed storage tanks and
these rarely cause trouble. However, there are still aircraft using flasks and the water in these is frequently
unsatisfactory.

There were 293 samples taken during the year with the following results:—

WATER SUPPLIES
Main Supplies
Water is supplied to the Borough by three Water Companies. The detailed results of chemical
analysis of water taken from these three supplies are shown overleaf.
Private Water Supplies
There are four houses within the Borough supplied from wells; one has its own chlorinating plant.
In addition, a number of industrial premises draw water from deep wells for manufacturing purposes.
Thirty samples of water from private sources were submitted for laboratory examination. Twentyone
were found to be satisfactory, eight unsatisfactory and one suspicious.
The use of well water for drinking purposes, by the staff of a horticultural unit was discontinued
following unsatisfactory laboratory reports and negotiations are proceeding for a main connection.
Swimming Baths
In addition to Ruislip Lido, part of which is used for bathing purposes, there are 17 swimming
pools in the Borough. Two indoor public pools are in use throughout the year and the remainder,
situated at schools, hotels, clubs, etc. during the summer months only.

There were 172 samples submitted for bacteriological examination with the following results.
