HOME HELP SERVICE
The number of Home Helps employed at the end of the year was 136 but as many of these were
only part-time, it was the equivalent of 72 full-time workers—slightly less than the previous year.

A summary of the help provided is given below:—

TUBERCULOSIS—CARE AND AFTER CARE
Following the completion of the new wing of Hillingdon Hospital, the services formerly operated
from the Uxbridge Chest Clinic were deployed from there, and those cases arising in the northern part
of the borough were dealt with at a clinic sited at Mount Vernon Hospital. As in past years, the services
of a tuberculosis visitor and health visitors were made available to follow up cases from both clinics.
It is gratifying to note that the local general practitioners are making good use of the facilities provided,
especially in referring cases for X-ray. This referral and subsequent follow-up are possibly the most
useful means available to us of keeping tuberculosis under control. The total number of notifications
of pulmonary and non-pulmonary disease is, of course, comparatively small.
CHIROPODY
Chiropody treatment is provided by qualified chiropodists at the following clinics:—
Minet, Coldharbour Lane, Hayes.
Laurel Lodge, Harlington Road, Hillingdon.
West Mead, West Mead, South Ruislip.
Yiewsley, 22 High Street, Yiewsley.

The voluntary organisations have an important part to play in the chiropody service—as the figures show.
