MEDICAL INSPECTION OF ALIENS
During the year 5,314 aliens were referred for medical inspection, compared with 4,366 in 1966.
Forms (Port 12) were issued on 69 occasions. After medical inspection 32 aliens were refused entry on
grounds of health, and mental instability accounted for 21 of these cases.
Of the 5,314 aliens referred, 5,054 were proposing to spend more than six months in the United
Kingdom; a further 22 aliens were visiting the country for consultation or treatment.
MENTAL ILLNESS
The number of mentally ill persons referred at the airport during the year was 166.
The mental welfare officers were called on 101 occasions.

AMBULANCE CASES

The number of invalids requiring National Health Service transport rose from 822 in 1966 to 1,016 in 1967. Comparative figures are:—

The number of calls made upon the British Airports Authority ambulances was 3,720. This figure
included 514 patients who were in transit from one aircraft to another.
The number of invalids brought to or leaving the airport by car as opposed to ambulance was
2,767, which was an increase of 700 over the previous year.
