Port Health
The number of vaccinations against smallpox carried out in 1967 was 9,158, an increase of 2,000
over 1966. Some countries, notably Pakistan and, to a less extent, India, have not yet completed the
introduction of the new form of certificate, which records the origin and batch number of the vaccine
in a separate column, and thereby give the health control staffs at ports of entry increased work.
The war in the Middle East resulted in many British Jews volunteering their services in Israel. Few
of them were in possession of valid international certificates on their return to London, where they had
to be revaccinated.
Cholera vaccinations rose from 186 to 261; yellow fever from 30 to 47.
The total number of arriving passengers who required to be isolated was 20.
