INSPECTIONS OF FOOD PREMISES.
Steady progress in the inspection and improvement of the
various food premises in the Borough has been maintained. During
the year, a total of 1,145 inspection or reinspection visits were made
by the Sanitary Inspectors and as a result of action taken by them
the following improvements were carried out:—
General cleansing and redecoration of Food
premises 57 premises.
Provision of Additional Sanitary accommodation

Improvement and cleansing of existing Sanitary

Constant hot water supply installed 46 ,,
Staff washing facilities provided or improved 33 ,,
Ventilation of Food preparing rooms, etc.,

Major improvement and alteration to Food

Food Stores or cold rooms reconstructed or

Drainage improved or repaired 12 „
Installation of new milk pasteurising plants 2 „
Co-operation by the proprietors of Food premises has been
excellent. They have generally been eager to improve their
premises and obtain a better standard for the preparation and handling
of Foodstuffs.
The total number of Food premises within the Borough is 380
and these premises carry on a total of 494 trades made up as
follows:—
Bakehouses
Butchers
Confectioners
Wet Fishmongers
Fried Fishmongers
Grocers
Greengrocers
Ice Cream Manufacturers and Retailers
