CARE OF ILLEGITIMATE CHILDREN
The employment of a Social Welfare Officer by the Boroughs
of Richmond and Barnes continues to justify itself by the volume
and nature of the work performed.
The following is a record of the work carried out in Richmond
only:—
Number of cases brought to the notice of the Department
during the year.
(a) Through Local Authority Records, Clinics and
Health Visitors 52
(b) Through Almoners, Probation Officers, Clergy,
etc., 18

Number of cases visited for the first time during

Number of home visits and re-visits to all known
cases 432
Number of visits to employers, relatives, institutions,
hostels and welfare societies in connection with
cases 200
Total 694
Arising out of these visits, the following arrangements were
concluded:—
