Housing and Public Health Acts have been systematically carried out
during the year.
The total number of inspections made during the year was 9,702.
On 992 of the premises visited nuisances to the number of 5,337 were
discovered, and in dealing with the sanitary defects from which they
arose 592 intimation or preliminary notices and 31 statutory
notices were served. The number of letters written with regard to
the abatement of nuisances etc., was 321. At the end of the year
2,409 of the defects discovered had been abated, the work of
remedying 2,214 was in hand, and the remaining 754 were
outstanding. In order to ascertain that the sanitary defects were
being properly remedied 3579 visits were paid to the respective
premises.
The number of inspections made under the Housing Acts and
particulars recorded was 468, and the number of sanitary defects
remedied and improvements made under this heading was 3725.
