Infantile Mortality.
The Infantile Mortality rate is calculated on the number of
deaths of children under one year of age per 1,000 births.
During 1925, there were 25 deaths of children under one year
of age, and 530 births. This gives a rate of 47 deaths of infanfs
per 1,000 births as compared with 75 per 1,000 births in England
and Wales and 79 in London. It will be seen from the above
table that out of these 25 deaths, 15 occurred within the first
month, and 10 actually in the first week of life.
Only four of the infants who died had been brought to the
Infant Welfare Centre.
There were 4 deaths of illegitimate infants under one year of
age out of 40 illegitimate births, this gives an infantile mortality of
illegitimate children of 100 per 1,000 births.
