Diphtheria. Twenty-five cases of this disease were notified
during the year. The case rate of this disease per 1,000 living was
0.7, compared with 1.23 for England and Wales.

The deaths from this disease numbered two, a death rate of
0.05 as compared with 0.07 in England and Wales and 0.09 in
London. One of the two deaths occurred in a child who died outside
the district. He may have contracted the disease outside.
Twenty-two cases occurring in the Borough were treated at the
Isolation Hospital.
