Improvements have recently been made in the sanitary offices
at two schools in the Borough, and further improvement is contemplated.
The secondary schools are under the control of the County
Council, but on the advice of this Department the sanitary accom
modation of the County School for Boys was altered and brought
up to date.
SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE AREA.
Report of Sanitary Inspector.
In compliance with Article 19 (12) of the Sanitary Officers
Order, 1922, made by the Minister of Health, 1 have the honour to
submit the following tabulated particulars upon the work carried
out by the Sanitary staff during the year 1925 in connection with
the administration of the numerous Acts of Parliament and Byelaws
in force within the district.
Complaints.
During the year 544 verbal or written complaints were
recorded and investigated, and action taken where found
necessary.
The total number of inspections made during the year was
6,748. as compared with 5,452 in 1924. On 1,074 of the premises
visited nuisances to the number of 4,635 were discovered, and in
dealing with the sanitary defects from which they arose 532
" intimation " or " preliminary " notices and 118 statutory notices
were served. The number of letters written with regard to the
abatement of nuisances, &c., was 343. At the end of the year
3192 of the nuisances discovered had been abated, the work of
remedying 1,228 was in hand, and the remaining 215 were outstanding.
In order to ascertain that the sanitary defects were
being properly remedied, 2.964 visits were paid to the respective
premises.
The number of inspections made under the Housing and Town
Planning Act and particulars recorded was 502, and the number of
