Tuberculosis
Again there were very few new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis.

The downward trend in this disease since the war is shown m the following table:-

In the school health service B.C.G-. vaccination was offered
to all children in their fourteenth year and, as a result of this,
351 children were vaccinated.
The Walthamstow and Chingford Association of Tuberculosis Care
Helpers provided financial assistance and assistance in kind to
patients and their families who suffered financial loss through
the need for prolonged treatment at home or in hospital. This
help has, in recent years, been extended to chest and heart cases
in addition to sufferers from tuberculosis. The contribution
of £50 which the Chingford Council has made annually to this
Association has been very much appreciated.
Dysentery
Fifteen cases were notified during the year.
Food Poisoning
Salmonella infection was found to be the cause of the two
cases notified during 1964•
Food Hygiene
All food premises in the borough continued to receive close
attention from the Health Inspectorate staff.
Vaccination
Primary vaccination against smallpox numbered 362 and
re-vaccinations 226.
