A particular drive was made to improve the hygiene of meat
transport. The floors of many vehicles were found to be defective and
in almost all of them, much of the meat was stacked on the floor over
which the porters had to walk while loading and unloading the vehicles.
Unfortunately the poor method of handling and other bad practices
at the markets are a very poor example to the drivers of these vehicles
and without exception, they were quick to point this out. However,
I now think that they are beginning to understand that a high standard
is expected in this Borough and there has been a considerable improvement.
