14. Sour cream.Complainant declined to give evidence. Warning letter to retailer.
15. Foreign matter in bread.Manufacturers fined £5. 0s. 0d.
16. Foreign matter in bread.Complainant declined to give evidence. Warning letter to bakers.
17. Mouldy bread.Mould was found to be patches of flour on bread.
18. Brass nut in butter.Impossible to determine when nut got into butter. No further action.
19. Foreign matter in sausage.Found to be a piece of connective tissue. Letter to manufacturer.
20. Unpleasant symptoms experienced after eating a meal of condensed soup, minced beef, oxo and tinned peas. Suspected to have been caused by nicotinic acid in the minced beef but this could not be isolated by the Public Analyst.Butcher admitted using Salox containing nicotinic acid, in order to "make the meat look nice and red". Would not agree to discontinue but said he would take great care in its use. Representations made to A.M.C. and Ministry requesting that nicotinic acid be banned.
21. Complaint as above (4 months later and same butcher). Minced beef found to contain heavy proportion of nicotinic acid so as to be objectionable.Butcher fined £25. 0s. 0d. for selling meat which was not of the substance demanded in that it contained an excess of nicotinic acid. Further representations to A.M.C. and Ministry.
