PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF INFECTIOUS AND OTHER DISEASES
Diphtheria
For the thirteenth year in succession there has been no case of
diphtheria in the borough.
Immunisation against this disease is now combined with immunisation
against whooping cough and tetanus. The number of children receiving
this triple immunisation was 474; booster doses numbered 118,
In addition, the following numbers of children received the
immunisation indicated
Diphtheria alone - primary 21
-booster 233
Diphtheria with - primary 4
Whooping Cough - booster 2
Diphtheria with - primary 5
Tetanus - booster 32
Scarlet Fever
Forty-five cases were notified, of which it was necessary to
admit only one to hospital.
Measles
The incidence of measles rose rapidly during the winter and spring
of the year, reaching a total of 579 cases.
Measles serum was available to medical practitioners on application
to the Public Health Laboratory, Colindale, for the treatment of cases
and protection of contacts.
Whooping Cough
The notifications of this condition amounted to 91.
Immunisation against this disease is now combined with that against
diphtheria and tetanus. The number of children receiving this triple
immunisation was 474. In addition, the following numbers of children
received the immunisation indicated:-
Whooping Cough alone - primary 1
Whooping Cough with - primary 4
Diphtheria - booster 2
