Smoke Control Areas - Phased Programme.

The following details summarise the programme and show the number of Smoke Control Orders considered necessary to make the whole of Chingford a Smoke Control Area by 1974.

Chingford Smoke Control Order (No.l) 1960. 38 acres; 387 dwelling houses. Operative date 3rd Nov. 1960.An area bounded on the south side by and including Yardley Lane and on the north side by the Borough boundary.
Chingford Smoke Control Order (No.2) 1962. 227 acres; 2000 dwelling houses. Operative date 1st Nov. 1962.An area bounded on the north side by and including Priory Avenue and Priory Close and on the south side by but not including Hampton Road, and on the east side by Old Church Road and Chingford Mount Road.
Chingford Smoke Control Order (N0.3) 1963. 258 acres; 1500 dwelling houses. Operative date 1st Dec, 1963.This area is bounded on the north side by and including Hampton Road and on the south side by the Borough boundary.
Chingford Smoke Control Order (No,4) 1964. 260 acres; 1911 dwelling houses.An area bounded by the south side of New Road and the east side of Chingford Mount Road,
Chingford Smoke Control Order (No,5) 1966, 367 acres; 2000 dwelling houses.An area comprising the whole of the L.C.C, estate and privately owned properties on the south side of Whitehall Road end to the south of Hatch Lane,
Chingford Smoke Control Order (No,6) 1966. 353 acres; 2532 dwelling houses.An area hounded on the east side by the railway line, on the west side by Old Church Road and The Ridgeway and the north side of New Road,
Chingford Smoke Control Order (No,7) 1970. 561 acres; 1695 dwelling houses.An area on the western boundary of the Borough and hounded by the south side of Kings Head Hill, north side of The Ridgeway, the west side of Old Church Road and as far as Prioiy Avenue (North side).
