The above samples of Tuberculin Tested milk were taken on
account of adverse reports received from outside local authorities;
the dairyman in question is not a producer of Tuberculin Tested
milk, so that in addition to the routine investigation of the methods
employed in the bottling processes at the dairy, samples were taken
of all such milk on arrival at the premises. In two instances it was
shewn that the milk on arrival was not of a satisfactorily bacterial
standard and the authorities concerned were notified accordingly.
Ice Cream—Registration of Manufacturers and Vendors.
Section 158 of the Essex County Council Act, 1933, was
adopted by the Council in 1934, and the number of persons
registered at the end of the year was as follows:
For the manufacture, storage and sale 17
For the storage and sale only 26
No application for registration was refused during the year.
Eight samples of ice cream were taken during the year and the
bacteriologist reported that one sample was unsatisfactory in that
the bacterial count exceeded 100.000. Further visits were paid to
the vendor in question, when advice was given and subsequently a
satisfactory sample was obtained.
One sample was taken in connection with a case of typhoid
fever; the result of examination shewed the sample to be
satisfactory.
