Section E.—INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION
OF FOOD.
Milk Supply.
There are now only six cowkeepers on the register for the
district, one farm being given up during the year. This was
Manor Farm on the Boothby-Heathcote Estate, which was purchased
by the London County Council for Housing purposes.
Thus bricks and mortar are gradually replacing the last remaining
rural activities in the area. The number of retail purveyors
of milk remains as last year, namely, forty-four, and one
wholesale purveyor. The visits paid to these premises were 32;
the cowsheds have been maintained in a satisfactory state.
Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936.
Graded Milks. The following table shows the licences
granted during the year for the sale of milk under the new
special designations, as provided by the above Order:—
4 dealers' licences to sell milk as Fasteurised.
4 supplementary licences to sell mik as Pasteurised.
3 dealers' licences to sell milk as Tuberculin Tested.
3 supplementary licences to sell milk as Tuberculin Tested.
1 supplementary licence to sell milk as Accredited.
1 dealer's licence to bottle and sell milk as Tuberculin Tested.
1 dealer's licence to pasteurise and bottle milk.

Phosphatase Test.During the year the following samples were subjected to Test A, with the results as shown: —

Ice Cream—Registration of Manufacturers and Vendors.
Section 158 of the Essex County Council Act, 1933, was
adopted by the Council in 1934, and the number of persons
registered at the end of the year was as follows: —

For the storage and sale only 24
No application for registration was refused during the year,
and no samples of ice cream were submitted for examination.
Meat and Other Foods.
One licensed slaughterhouse is being used within the district
and twenty-one butchers' shops; the visits paid to these premises
numbered 197. The meat and food shops generally have been
maintained in a satisfactory condition.
Three slaughtermen's licences were granted during the year
under the Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933.
